Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Managers, the candidate will be involved in all aspects of facility maintenance including but not limited to:
• Snow removal, ice making for ice rinks, facility cleaning, tree cutting, chipping and wood splitting.
• Road and trail maintenance, mowing and weed whacking, and building maintenance and repairs.
• Operating large equipment such as Freightliner dump\plow truck, International 7300 garbage truck, medium sized commercial dump/rack trucks, front-end loaders, skid steers, tractors, and large turf mowers. This may include trailering equipment to jobsites.
• Assisting custodial staff, this may include tasks such as sweeping and mopping floors, emptying trash cans, cleaning restrooms, and dusting surfaces.
• Performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in the fields of electric, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.
• Coordinating with other site staff during special events and in emergency situations to ensure that guests have an enjoyable and safe experience.
• Providing excellent customer service to patrons by answering questions and addressing their concerns promptly and courteously.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours* of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
*Your credit hours must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must obtain a valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License Class B with air brake endorsement within the probationary period and must maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be capable of operating and performing routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, chainsaws, Utility Task Vehicle (UTV’s), wood processor, woodchipper, wood splitter, leaf vacuum and generators.
• Must keep up on all mandated safety training including First Aid/CPR/AED.
• Will be required to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Must attend chainsaw certification course within the probationary period and maintain ability to conduct logging operations as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be capable of basic computer operation.
Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug, and alcohol testing.
