Duties Description The incumbent will perform a variety of custodial and maintenance activities associated with cleaning and upkeep of a commercial office building. They will oversee and perform regularly scheduled cleaning and custodial duties, as well as number of related special projects. They will assist in other maintenance and support activities of the building as needed.

Job Duties
The Janitor will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

Interior building cleaning, including floors, carpeting, rugs, windows, walls and other surfaces 

Heavy and light routine and special cleaning and maintenance of restrooms 

Disinfect commonly used items like desks, door handles, office tools and phones 

Maintain cleaning inventory, placing orders for new products when needed 

Remove debris from walkways 

Empty trash and recycling bins 

Stock and maintain supply rooms 

Perform minor repairs and maintenance on custodial machinery, equipment and tools 

Vacuum, sweep and mop floors 

Washing and clean windows and mirrors 

Operate floor scrubbers, buffers and other cleaning and material handling equipment 

Dust furniture and fixtures 

Assist with snow removal, shovel walkways and apply ice melt agents

Perform inspection of work areas, parking lots, walkways and the general facility and report deficiencies, unsafe conditions and hazards to supervisory staff. 

Perform minor maintenance such as clearing clogs, affixing restroom fixtures, adjusting and replacing restroom hardware, changing ceiling tiles, and assisting maintenance staff on occasion 

Assist with event setups, teardowns and clean-up. 

May supervise subordinate staff

Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and communicate verbally and in writing to exchange information.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience using mechanized and non-mechanized cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers and other cleaning and material handling equipment 

Knowledge in utilizing cleaning agents and their applications  

Familiarity with and ability to operate hand and power tools 

Familiarity with work order management systems 

Ability to work independently and within a team environment 

Commitment to providing exceptional customer service 

Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 


Work Modality
A compressed work week is available upon request. If requested, approval will be determined per the operational needs of the department.

Work schedules can be revised or modified to accommodate the operational needs of the department.

Work Environment, Travel and Physical Demands
A valid driver's license is required 

The ability to lift 50 pounds is required as some heavy lifting may be necessary 

Travel to our second location in Malta, NY may be required
