Duties Description The Maintenance Supervisor 3 (Transportation) Duties Include:
Acting as an Assistant to the Regional Bridge Maintenance Engineer (RBME) working out of the Regional Office in Poughkeepsie.
The official liaison between the Bridge Maintenance Office and Bridge Maintenance Field Crews. They will be responsible for the oversight and deployment of Bridge Maintenance resources to accomplish the annual work plan and address all demand work.
The majority of their time will be spent in the field overseeing and facilitating operations with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of Bridge Maintenance staff and the traveling public, improving operational efficiency, enforcing Department Policy, teaching and implementing means and methods and ensuring proper utilization of materials and equipment.
Responsible for Supervisor Time & Attendance and take the lead on addressing personnel issues elevating them to and/or briefing the RBME as appropriate.
Responsible for preparing and implementing/overseeing an annual training program for field staff. This shall include both classroom training and on the job training. The Maintenance Supervisor 3 (Transportation) will be responsible for planning the Regional Crew Spring and Fall safety meetings.
The clearinghouse for all Bridge Maintenance facility issues, will schedule and moderate Bridge Repair Supervisor production meetings and BRS1 bi-annual meetings and will distribute, implement and enforce Regional Bridge Maintenance Policies.
Responsible for all facets of the purchasing of materials, tools and equipment acting as Quartermaster and overseeing inventory. Other duties include tracking of equipment; managing the upkeep of Bridge Crew yards; researching products, tools and equipment; attending crew meetings as well as performing site visits and field crew visitations.
May be called to act on the RBME’s behalf during absences and as so directed.
Will be called upon to serve a role within the Incident Command System to support the Department’s response to Regional and Statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
A viable eligible list may not exist in this location and NYSDOT may be authorized to make a provisional appointment at this location. Candidates appointed provisionally must take and pass the next scheduled Civil Service examination, and be reachable on the resulting eligibility list, or their employment in the position (may have hold item) will end.
Promotional Examination: Candidates must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Transportation and have had five weeks of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor 2, Bridge Repair Supervisor 2, Principal Engineering Technician or Supervising Equipment Operator Instructor.
After one year of the service described in the Minimum Qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for provisional appointment.
Note: Employee’s currently in an Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation), SG-20, position may be eligible for reassignment. Candidates must be in their title for at least one year and have successfully completed probation or be otherwise eligible for reassignment in accordance with Civil Service Law. Selected candidate will be reassigned in their current Assistant Engineer, SG-20, title. Reassignment will be subject to approval of the gaining and contributing Divisions.

The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
