Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Park Worker 3 may be engaged in the performance or coordination of, but not limited to, the following tasks and activities as described:
• Support the operations, activities, events, programs, and maintenance at assigned facility.
• Perform maintenance activities including mowing, refuse removal, cleaning structures, painting, maintenance of equipment, snow and ice removal, operation of trucks, tractors, Bobcats, snowplows, power saws and other self-propelled equipment, minor carpentry, masonry, plumbing or electrical repairs and other duties as assigned.
• Operate regional commercial vehicles for various projects as needed.
• Load and unload cargo from vehicles and storage.
• Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical repairs.
• Assist in building and repairing roads, paths, picnic tables, benches, trails, and park equipment and works in other areas of park operations as needed
• Assign, supervise, review, train, and evaluate work of lower-level employees
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting and directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize potential problems
• Assist in snow removal, shoveling snow, and will operate vehicles to plow snow during the winter months
• Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited* college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson

*Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.

Additional Comments Salary Information:
Positions located within Nassau County are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.
Salary Information:
Park Worker 3, SG-9 (CSEA) $46,641 - $56,413 (the starting salary indicated combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($42,641) with the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($52,413) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).

Operational Needs:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must have completed chainsaw certification, CPR, First Aid & AED trainings, OR will need to complete as soon as the appropriate training is offered in the Region as a term and condition of employment.
• The incumbent will be required to work a variable schedule including weekends, holidays, days and evenings, especially during peak operating season between April and October. This position is a Closing Supervisor position and will be working variable closing shifts.
