Duties Description • Under the Safety Program Development Section in the Highway Safety Bureau, the duties include, but are not limited to:
• Manage the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP)
• Manage and oversee annual reporting requirements on the progress of Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) project implementation and evaluation efforts.
• Manage and oversee the annual HSIP Implementation Report- status of statewide Highway Safety Improvement Program data trends, NYSDOT strategies, and how available funding has been used to improve safety in New York.
• Manage the Vulnerable Road User (VRU) program.
• Support the Statewide Safety Evaluation Engineer with review and analysis of NYSDOT Highway Design Manual, Red Book, Yellow Book, and other regulatory guidance, as well as application of FHWA Proven Safety Countermeasures.
• Assist with management of the Crash Location and Engineering Analysis Repository (CLEAR).
• Assist Regional Safety Evaluation Engineers (SEEs) with training and professional development opportunities.
• Provide support to the SEE for safety studies for safety actions plans, and systemic analyses.
• Provide support for municipal requests for data-support strategies to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes
• Contribute to the Incident Command System to support the Department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
