Duties Description Perform advanced clerical and office support activities that require substantive knowledge of the program area. Perform activities that may require coordination with internal or external parties. Exact duties to be discussed at interview.
Minimum Qualifications *For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Promotional Examination: Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher. Qualifying Experience for Appointment from the Eligible List: After one year of the service described in the Minimum Qualifications.
Language Proficiency: Candidates that pass the examination and apply to a title which requires language proficiency must demonstrate language proficiency at a level that will ensure their ability to perform the duties of the position properly. The proficiency test will only be given to enough candidates to fill current vacancies.
NY HELPS Minimum Qualifications for Non-Competitive Appointment: One year of clerical experience.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
