Duties Description Practice the profession of dentistry consistent with the scope of practice as conveyed in the state statue and may perform the same duties as a Dentist 1, plan, organize, and direct the work of a professional and paraprofessional subordinate dentists and dental staff as prescribed by agency policy and procedures, schedule work and individual treatment, consult with subordinate dentist on problem cases. Provide staff training, prepare budget for the dental program, order and maintain dental equipment and supplies, prepare written reports, ensure that fully documented records are maintained.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Promotional Examination: Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Dentist 1.
Qualifying Experience for Appointment from the Eligible List: After one year of the service described in the Minimum Qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment from the eligible list. (E 8/9/2022; 38-797010)
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Open Competitive Examination: Must have a valid license and registration to practice dentistry in New York State AND three years of full-time post licensure dentistry experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity in a dental health care setting.
Qualifying Experience: If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience
*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
