Duties Description The Investigative Auditor performs professional work supporting the review and analysis of campaign finance activities within the New York State Board of Elections. This position is responsible for conducting preliminary reviews of campaign finance filings and financial records, assisting in audit and compliance-related projects, and supporting efforts to ensure adherence to applicable laws, rules, and regulations. The Investigative Auditor works under the guidance of senior staff to develop subject-matter expertise, contribute to program operations, and support the consistent application of campaign finance requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct preliminary reviews of campaign finance filings submitted by political committees and candidates, assessing completeness, accuracy, and adherence to applicable laws, rules, regulations, and established criteria.
• Conduct preliminary reviews of the books and records of political committees and candidates to support the assessment of compliance with applicable statutes, rules, regulations, Board opinions, and policies.
• Perform focused review projects and analyses, including reviews of financial activity such as potential over-contributions, applying relevant legal and regulatory standards and coordinating associated communications.
• Assist in the analysis and review of campaign finance disclosures and filings to support efforts to secure compliance with filing requirements.
• Assist in the development and implementation of projects and initiatives related to campaign finance administration and program operations.
• Assist in the calculation and application of contribution limits and other regulatory thresholds in accordance with statutory formulas.
• Provide support for filer assistance and general inquiries, including participation in help desk and phone support functions as needed.
• Contribute to the development of policy recommendations related to campaign finance compliance and program operations.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by senior leadership.
Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s Degree + two (2) years of accounting or finance or general business or other related experience; or an Associate’s Degree + four (4) years of accounting or finance or general business or other related experience; or 5 years of other related experience.
