Duties Description The NYS Digital Services team at the Office of General Services (OGS) seeks a detail-oriented professional to serve as an Analytics Specialist. The Public Information Specialist 2 (Digital Content) will function as the Analytics Specialist, understanding the usage and impact of digital content.
The Analytics Specialist will play a pivotal role in measuring the effectiveness of digital public information and ensuring New Yorkers can easily find, understand and complete government services online.
The ideal candidate is a digital professional who seamlessly bridges the gap between complex content and analytics to provide site content recommendations and translate technical insights into clear narratives.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
• Analyze and structure website content in a clear and presentable way that enables website visitors to find what they need.
• Consult with subject matter experts to support the creation of new or revised web content, social media, and online documents and forms.
• Monitor current events and news at state and federal level.
• Collaborate with technologists, designers, content strategists, UX researchers, and project teams to ensure product delivery is supported by data.
• Generate and deliver reports that highlight data insights derived from survey and performance data to the team regularly.
• Design dynamic, user-friendly Data Studio dashboards tailored for performance tracking
• Evaluate the effectiveness of websites, online content and customer experiences through web analytics, user feedback, search behavior and engagement metrics to continuously refine digital experiences.
• Manage Google Tag Manager (GTM) containers to safely monitor form completions, and document downloads to track key performance metrics, refine event tracking, and generate insights that shape strategic decisions.
• Participate in regular presentation meetings to explain dashboard data, trends, and actionable website improvements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
NOTE: This position may require routine evening and weekend work, as well as some travel on occasion between NYC and Albany.
Minimum Qualifications Seven years of experience* in public relations, social media, and digital communications.
*Substitutions: A degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or a similar degree may substitute for experience as follows:
• Associates degree: two years of required experience.
• Bachelor’s degree: four years of required experience.
• Master’s degree: five years of required experience.
Promotional: One year of experience as a Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content).
Preferred Qualifications:
• A strategic mindset grounded in best practices for digital products with an emphasis on successful user outcomes.
• Ability to collaborate with others and work within a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working with multiple internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs.
• Creative thinker with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Expert understanding of Google Analytics (GA4) and using it to make informed decisions.
• Proficiency in GA4, Google Tag Manager, and Data Studio to build and maintain dashboards that track engagement, and user activity.
• Exceptional ability to turn analytics metrics into clear, meaningful insights.
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in SQL for querying and data manipulation.
