Duties Description As a Highway Maintenance Supervisor 2, you would supervise 2 or more subordinate Maintenance Supervisors and their crews in maintenance and repair projects on or adjacent to state highways or structural units. Such projects may include any of the following: widening, surfacing, and resurfacing highways; extending or building shoulders; installing curbing; erecting signs; removing trees, erecting guide rails; building and repairing culverts; repairing drainage systems; erecting cribbing; doing major doing major excavating work; cleaning stream beds; and plowing snow and treating icy pavement. You would be required to operate heavy dump trucks, perform one-person snow plowing, and operate other highway equipment. Candidates are required to have proficiency in MMS and maintain work records. You would also be required to plan and schedule work by effectively prioritizing emergencies, complaints, and seasonal assignments.
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointments, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or to be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, you will be required to have a valid New York State Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restrictions.
Appointees will be required to satisfactorily complete a “one-person plowing” certification program which the Department of Transportation will offer during the probation period.
Additional Comments Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
The starting salary for Highway Maintenance Supervisor 2 is $68,787. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $59,787 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment
The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
