Duties Description The Communications Division is seeking a highly creative and technical Videographer to join our team. This is a "working supervisor" role designed for an experienced visual storyteller who wants to remain highly active in hands-on production while guiding and growing a small, talented team.
The ideal candidate will spend the majority of their time leading high-profile video projects from concept to delivery. Alongside their production work, they will serve as a mentor and coach, actively helping team members sharpen their technical skills, elevate their storytelling, and achieve their professional development goals.
Duties of the Multimedia Production Representative 2 will include but not be limited to:
• End-to-End Production: Conceptualize, shoot, and edit high-impact video content, including public service announcements (PSAs), educational campaigns, social media content, and agency profiles.
• Field Production: Lead the technical setup and real-time execution of live field productions, such as press conferences, town halls, and public events, managing multi-camera switchers, live-streaming hardware/software, and broadcast-quality audio feeds under tight, high-pressure deadlines.
• Live Event Audio Engineering: Set up, test, and operate sound systems to deliver clear, high-quality audio and eliminate feedback during live events.
• Post-Production Excellence: Deliver polished final products by performing advanced video editing, color grading, and audio mixing.
• Drone Operation: Receive and maintain valid certification through the NYS Department of Labor to operate drones for video production.
• Innovation & Trends: Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging video technologies, and social media formats to keep the agency’s visual content modern, engaging, and effective.
• Equipment & Asset Management: Oversee the agency’s production gear inventory, ensuring equipment is maintained, upgraded, and organized.
• Skill Building & Coaching: Actively mentor team members by conducting regular creative reviews, sharing advanced production techniques, and providing constructive feedback on shooting and editing.
• Professional Development Planning: Partner with individual team members to identify career goals and recommend training opportunities.
• Creative Direction: Provide guidance on project concepts and visual style to ensure all team outputs align with agency standards and branding guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
Seven (7) years of experience* in one or more of the following assignment areas with a national network, local network television affiliate, cable news, commercial media production facility, marketing communications agency or related operation.
a. Engineering or newsroom technology specialist, master control operator, media ingest operator, and/or media data center operator; OR
b. Production planner, production assistant, traffic coordinator, assistant account executive, or assignment editor; OR
c. News videographer, studio camera operator, art director, copywriter, graphic designer, video editor, producer, or web designer; OR
d. Broadcast engineer, uplink engineer, maintenance engineer, or broadcast systems integration
*Substitution:
College study in a related field may be substituted for up to four (4) years of experience with 30 credit hours equaling one (1) year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Public Sector or Agency Experience: Experience with a government agency, public sector organization, non-profit, or a fast-paced creative agency handling public-facing campaigns preferred.
• Leadership & Coaching Experience: Demonstrated experience mentoring junior videographers, providing constructive creative direction, and successfully managing performance or workload conflicts.
• High-Volume Project Management: Experience using project management and collaboration tools to manage high-volume creative workflows and meet tight deadlines.
• Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to collaborate with and manage the expectations of diverse internal stakeholders, including executive leadership, program directors, and policy experts. Ability to present creative concepts persuasively, accept feedback constructively, and defend video choices with diplomacy and professionalism.
• Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders
Additional Comments Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.
Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.
