Duties Description The Trades Generalists perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled activities in one or more trades in response to maintenance program requirements.

Trades Generalists are assigned where the organization of work and the maintenance program require the flexibility afforded by this classification.

Incumbents work with and support employees whose positions are classified in specific trades.

Trades Generalists, like other journey-level employees, plan and lay out construction, repair, and maintenance projects, and perform other duties as assigned.

Incumbents may be required to supervise other employees on projects and are expected to do so in a professional and efficient manner.

The successful candidate must be flexible with their schedule and be available for overtime and emergency response when needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.

Additional Comments Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40-hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training.
Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
