Minimum Qualifications Position requires 10+ years of law enforcement, investigative experience in a major police department or law enforcement agency, preferably in the area of fraud, including contract and white-collar crime, 3+ years of which included supervisory experience. Must have extensive knowledge of New York State Criminal law and procedure. Candidate must be a certified forensic computer examiner (IACIS-CFCE a plus). Additionally, must also have significant experience in surveillance techniques and the use, installation and maintenance of technical equipment used in law enforcement, for electronic video surveillance; in particular, the installation, monitoring and removal of covert cameras; GPS live tracking devices; data loggers; and body wires. Must be highly proficient in all aspects of computer, cell phone and other digital media forensics. Must be highly proficient in the preparation of intelligence reports and utilizing law enforcement databases and A+ and Net+ certifications are preferred.

Position further requires high-level experience interacting with other major law enforcement agencies and the ability to oversee multiple and highly sensitive, confidential investigations is necessary. Experience managing and coordinating multi-disciplinary investigative teams as well as conducting internal investigations is necessary. Candidate must possess extraordinary interpersonal, writing and interviewing skills, and must be willing to work unscheduled hours and travel when necessary. Bachelor’s degree required.

Duties Description The Deputy Chief Investigator works under the supervision of the Chief Investigator, the Deputy Inspector General for Investigations, and the Deputy Inspector General for the Western Region. The Deputy Chief Investigator is responsible for assisting the Chief Investigator with the daily oversight and management of the Western Regional Office and its Investigative Unit. Under the direction of the Chief Investigator, the Deputy Chief Investigator supervises a team of investigators, and assigns and monitors the progress of all cases in the Western Regional office; conducts case reviews; manages a personal caseload; conducts interviews; prepares and reviews written reports for submission to the Chief Investigator, Deputy Inspector General for the Western Region, and the executive staff; attends to special circumstances that arise; coordinates the efforts of the Investigative Unit as it relates to the mission of OIG; and serves as liaison to other law enforcement and governmental entities. The Deputy Chief Investigator coordinates all forensic and technical investigations for OIG’s western region, and is thus well versed in all manners of technology and computer forensic investigations. This position is in the exempt class and the incumbent serves at the pleasure of the New York State Inspector General.
