Minimum Qualifications Current license and registration to practice medicine in New York State AND board-eligible or board-certified in a medical specialty, and one (1) year of experience in a clinical, hospital, or patient-care setting. Must maintain credentials to remain employable.

Preferred Qualifications:
At least three (3) years of experience in a clinical, hospital, or patient-care setting. Familiarity with medical criteria used for Medicaid disability determinations per Department of Health Regulations is desirable. (Per Department Regulations Title 18 NYCRR 360-5, medical criteria for disability determinations for Medicaid eligibility mirror the medical criteria set forth in Federal regulations for determining disability for Social Security Disability Insurance (Title II) and Supplemental Security Income (Title XVI) purposes).

Duties Description The incumbent of this position will serve as the Medical Director for the Medicaid State Disability Review Unit (SDRU). In this capacity, the incumbent will provide interpretation and evaluation of medical reports and other evidence relating to an individual’s physical or mental impairment(s) and determine if the individual’s condition meets the definition of disability per Department of Health regulations (Title 18 NYCRR 360-5). The incumbent will work with staff to ensure that Medicaid disability policy is keeping with Department regulations and provide a quality assurance component for disability determinations performed by the SDRU. He/she will provide medical consultation regarding disability cases and education related to disability determinations to State Disability Review Unit nurses and address fair hearing issues. A determination of disability may qualify an otherwise ineligible person for Medicaid, provide for payment of an enhanced payment rate for Managed Care, and place the recipient in a federal category for purposes of claims reimbursement.
