Minimum Qualifications You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position; on or before the date of filing your application, the candidate must have a New York State license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; and certification by the New York State Education Department in a **specialty area to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
Requirement for prescribing medication; you must meet the current requirements as prescribed by the New York State Board of Nursing.
**Specialty area must coincide with the scope of practice performed by an incumbent.
Duties Description As a Nurse Practitioner, you would provide primary health care working in collaboration with a licensed Physician or Physicians. You would assess the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests. In accordance with a written practice agreement and written practice protocols that include specialty areas and are agreed upon in advance by you and the Physician record, your work may include the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions and the performance of therapeutic and corrective measures. You may also perform employee health examinations in accordance with the practice agreement and practice protocols. In small medical offices, supervision of subordinate staff may be required.
