Minimum Qualifications Current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service as a Secretary 1, OR a NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service in a position allocated to a salary grade 9 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
The preferred candidate would have experience with supervision of staff; the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities; knowledge of the Department’s policies and procedures. Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access), scheduling meetings, and making travel arrangements
Duties Description This position is in the Bureau of Early Intervention, which is responsible for statewide administration of the Early Intervention Program (EIP). The EIP provides therapeutic and support services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays and their families. The Secretary 1 will organize and maintain bureau records, manage the bureau director/assistant director and staff schedules, coordinate and schedule meetings, respond to emails, communicate within the agency and with outside persons, refer phone calls and correspondence to the correct individual or other parts of the Department as appropriate, provide back-up for the division’s phone lines as needed, and assist visitors. The incumbent will provide administrative support for quarterly meetings of the Early Intervention Coordinating Council (EICC) including preparation of meeting folders and materials, tracking of due dates for Committee meetings, and following up on travel vouchers submitted by Committee members. The Secretary 1 will work in collaboration with other support staff in the Bureau of Early Intervention. Other duties may include supervision of support staff, coordinating phone coverage and completion of special projects.
Permanent, full-time. Transfer candidates not currently serving in a keyboarding title will be required to take and pass a keyboarding examination to qualify for appointment.
