Minimum Qualifications Transfer Qualifications:
This position is designated as administrative and may be filled via administrative transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law, provided that all transfer criteria are met. Source titles from which transfer may be made must be designated administrative and be Grade 25 or above. Transfer candidates must also possess a law degree from an accredited college or university. Admission to the New York State Bar and current registration to practice Law in New York State is necessary for continued employment. Disbarment or loss of registration shall result in termination or suspension of employment.
Duties Description As a Senior Unemployment Insurance Referee, you would be responsible for day-to-day supervision and oversight of a team of UI Referees in either the Hearings or Appeals Section. Responsibilities would include the assignment of hearings or appeals to Unemployment Insurance Referees; the review of hearings and procedures; the review of hearing decisions or recommended appeal decisions for legal analysis, appropriate decision writing, and consistency with prior Board and Court precedents; the mentoring and development of a team of UI Referees; and, when assigned, develop and/or administer local or statewide training. You would also conduct legal research in novel and complex cases and supervise Unemployment Insurance Referees in their legal research.
