Minimum Qualifications Permanent: Candidates currently serving as a Park Manager 1 may be eligible for reassignment. Candidates serving in a title that is eligible for 52.6 transfer may also be appointed on a permanent basis.
Provisional: Candidates may be appointed on a provisional** basis by meeting either the transition or open competitive qualifications:
Transition: You must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and have one year of permanent competitive, labor, or non-competitive service: Either 1 - in a position allocated to Grade 11 or above - Or 2. as a Park Worker 3, Grade 9.
Open Competitive: Either 1. five years of experience working in a park or recreational facility within a park in any of these functional areas: administration (business, personnel, finance); planning; recreational programming; public relations/visitor services; maintenance; or environmental education/interpretation. This experience must have included two years of supervisory experience;
Or 2. a bachelor’s degree^^ in park management or administration, recreation, environmental management, forestry, or natural resources AND one year of supervisory experience in a park or recreational facility within a park in any of the functional areas listed above;
Or 3. a bachelor’s degree AND three years of supervisory experience in a park or recreational facility within a park in any of the functional areas listed above.
^^ Degrees in other fields will NOT be substituted in lieu of the specific specialized degrees listed above.
** Candidates appointed on a provisional basis must take the next holding of the Park Manager 1 exam, pass the exam, and be reachable on the resulting eligible list to continue appointment in the Park Manager 1 position.
Duties Description This position serves as the Regional Safety Manager for the Thousand Islands Region. The duties and responsibilities include: Oversee Regional Safety Program including Water Safety, ensure that the program is effective and meets agency goals and standards; chair quarterly Safety Committee Meetings; perform safety inspections at all regional facilities, documenting all inspections and follow-up to determine that corrections are made; serve as Safety Training Coordinator and Trainer; schedule all safety training in the region and assist with seasonal training; manage the regional AED (Automated External Defibrillator) program, completing necessary reports and ordering supplies as needed; manage the drinking water, sewer system and beach sampling and testing program; Review all patron incident and employee accident reports and perform follow-up when necessary; and oversee programs including Hazard Trees, Workplace Violence Assessments, Employee Health Services physicals and other programs as assigned.
