Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list, or;
Candidates must have permanently served at least one year in a title designated as appropriate for transfer in accordance with Section 70.1 or 70.4 of Civil Service Law, a bachelor’s degree and 24 credit hours in accounting and/or auditing courses.
To be eligible for a 70.1 transfer to an accountant trainee, a candidate must have one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title, a bachelor’s degree including 24 credit hours in accounting and/or auditing.
To be eligible for a 70.4 transfer a candidate must have one year of permanent competitive service in a position allocated to a grade 12 or higher, a bachelor’s degree including 24 credit hours in accounting and /or auditing.
Depending on qualifications, candidates may be required to serve a 2-year traineeship that leads to the journey level, grade 18 position.

Duties Description Under the guidance of the Associate Accountant the Senior Accountant is responsible for the day to day work involved in the maintenance of accounting records and preparation of reports. Duties include, but are not limited to: reviewing accounting transactions for accuracy and appropriateness; performing accounting entries, reconciliations, reporting and ad-hoc projects as assigned; researching identified accounting issues to assist in making necessary corrections; reviewing daily, monthly, annual and/or periodic reports for accuracy and completion; corresponding in a professional manner with co-workers, management and external customers. Working knowledge of Statewide Financial System or PeopleSoft, Excel, Access and Word are a plus.
