Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list.
NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Senior Attorney (G-25); OR a NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at Grade 23 or above with current NYS Bar Admission and eligible for transfer to Senior Attorney under Sections 70.4 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. (Candidates requesting consideration for transfer must also be a graduate of an accredited law school with a LLB or JD degree.)
Duties Description The incumbent will be responsible for providing legal support and management of the Advocate for Injured Workers’ Office. Duties include, but are not limited to: respond to legal inquiries from within the Board, such as from General Counsel, Investigators, Liquidation Bureau and Third Party Administrators, as well as outside government agencies concerning work-related injuries and deaths, court orders, carrier issues, law and regulation questions and bankruptcy; handle complex legal issues; address complaints referred from the New York State Workers’ Compensation Fraud Inspector General’s Office; assist agency offices who regularly interact with claimants to improve their information and complaint handling services; supervise and evaluate staff performance.
