Minimum Qualifications An Associates degree in the field of Physical Education, Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a closely related field*, and 2 years experience directing or assisting in the direction of a schedule, organized recreational program; or a Bachelors degree in the field of Physical Education, Recreational Therapy, or a closely related recreational field; or a Bachelors degree and two years experience as described above.
**Qualifying closely related recreational field degrees for are: Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology (Athletic Training), Kinesiology (Physical Education), Kinesiology (Sports Management), Movement and Science, Recreation Management, Sports Management or Therapeutic Recreation.
Duties Description Plan and coordinate organized discretionary time activities for inmates in a facility of the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. This would include developing and directing a comprehensive recreational program of athletic and non-athletic activities; assessing the interest of the inmates; developing procedures for and monitoring all activities to ensure compliance with established directives; soliciting inmate and community involvement; providing instruction in an officiating at activities; preparing written reports; maintaining records of participants, programs and equipment; responsibility for issuance and repair of equipment and supplies; conducting tryouts and selecting teams and officials; and coordinating tournaments and other events.
