Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades-worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of and the ability to use the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades in which assigned. They will also have completed the Game of Logging training.
Duties Description Candidate will be assigned inmate work crews periodically and must be able to give direction and supervise such crews on various job sites.
Some work will include travel in the back country during winter months, candidate should be able to perform work using snowshoes and or back country/cross country skis.
Candidate might be required to work in an outpost during the year to cover for shortage of personnel. The candidate will be required to work in outdoor conditions throughout the year and may require working in extreme conditions, candidate must be able to perform duties in such conditions. Candidate will be required to hike up to 10 miles a day and may be required to stay overnight in the back country. Candidate will be required to perform repairs and maintenance on trails, bridges, lean-tos and other structures in the back country. May not be assigned to the same job location each day, should expect to be assigned anywhere in the working circle during work day. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy labor and be able to lift 60 pounds. Candidate will be required to read plans, specifications and manuals and have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/19. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to the date listed above. Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
