Minimum Qualifications Current Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent permanent service as a Health Care Surveyor 2 (Nursing), SG-19; OR current New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent permanent service as a Health Care Surveyor 2 (Nursing) or Senior Utilization Review Nurse, SG-19 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Preferred Qualifications: At least three years of clinical experience working in a health care facility; two years’ experience performing utilization review, medical review, fraud investigations, surveillance or monitoring activities at the facility level; excellent telephone and written communication skills; computer experience with databases and Microsoft office products. Nursing Home experience preferred.

Duties Description The Health Care Surveyor 2 will be responsible to perform triage of nursing home complaints using federal mandated guidelines. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; review each complaint to ensure jurisdiction, forward referrals to other agencies, document complaints in state and/or federal databases, interview complainants to gather information, receive and handle incoming hotline calls from the public, outgoing calls to gather preliminary details of complaints being reported, review complaints received via fax, letter, referrals etc., provide information to surveyors, participate in QA and QI programs, provide exceptional customer service, and monitor and report call and complaint trends.

Additional Comments Permanent, full time appointment. This position requires travel which may include locations not served by public transportation. The selected candidate must maintain licensure and registration to practice as a professional nurse in New York State.
