Minimum Qualifications Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1 (G22); OR New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent- permanent competitive service in a title at or above a G20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidates would have experience working in a community public health program and have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills. A strong command of technology solutions that support efficient program operations is preferred. The ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities is required.

Duties Description The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program which provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, afterschool programs and adults in day care.

The Public Health Nutritionist 1 (PHN1) will provide nutrition expertise and technical assistance to ensure the quality and safety of food service operations at participating organizations. On-site visits conducted by the PHN 1 will also monitor and evaluate fiscal and administrative integrity and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Responsibilities of the PHN 1 include: reviewing and recommending approval of applications and providing training related to menu planning, food service operations, obesity prevention programming and maintaining required records consistent with CACFP regulations.

Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, competitive appointment. Frequent Statewide travel, including to areas that may not be served by public transportation, will be required. Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) as defined above must be maintained for continued employment as a Public Health Nutritionist 1.
