Minimum Qualifications Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1 (G22); OR New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent- permanent competitive service in a title at or above a G20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.
The preferred candidates would have experience in the administration and operation of health programs, and knowledge of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program State and federal regulations. Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently are desired.
Duties Description The Bureau of Supplemental Food Programs (BSFP) administers the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and the Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Currently, the NYS WIC program serves a monthly caseload of approximately 425,000 participants through 91 local WIC agency contracts valued at $134 million. This position is in the Program Quality and Communication Section (PQCS) of BSFP, which is responsible for WIC Eligibility policies and oversight of the Capital District region contract managers.
The Public Health Nutritionist 1 (PHN1) will function as a contract manager responsible for monitoring WIC local agencies to ensure services are being delivered to WIC participants and that federal and NYS WIC program policies and procedures are being followed. The incumbent will provide training and technical assistance to WIC local agency staff related to WIC program services, review and monitor WIC local agency reports and budgets. The incumbent will work with WIC local agency staff to ensure the Local Agency Compliance and Self-Assessment annual review is completed, SMART goals are set, and then monitor performance during on-site visits. The incumbent will plan, facilitate, and present at meetings with WIC local agency staff and work with local agency staff to resolve participant questions/complaints.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, competitive appointment. Occasional Statewide travel, including overnight and to areas that may not be served by public transportation, will be required. Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) as defined above must be maintained for continued employment as a Public Health Nutritionist 1.
