Minimum Qualifications On or before the date of filing your application, you must have all of the following:
• A bachelor's degree or higher including or supplemented by 24 semester credit hours in mathematics, statistics, and/or actuarial science; AND
• Successful completion of one examination of the Society of Actuaries or Casualty Actuarial Society.
As a competitive class position in a New York State agency, you must file for and be reachable on the NYS Department of Civil Service continuous examination for the title Assistant Actuary to be considered for this vacancy. This continuous recruitment examination requires the completion of an application/supplemental questionnaire (see examination announcement for link). Duties Description The Actuarial Department of the New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF) is seeking an Assistant Actuary to assist with various actuarial projects related to Workers' Compensation and/or Disability Insurance.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Performing actuarial calculations related to establishing sound loss and loss expense reserves;
• Performing actuarial calculations related to establishing sound rate levels;
• Assisting in the review and analysis of reserve volatility calculations and development patterns;
• Assembling data from internal and/or external sources;
• Analyzing and identifying loss drivers and trends;
• Preparing internal reports as well as external reports and data calls; AND
• Other projects and duties assigned on an ad hoc basis.
