Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law or reachable on the Payroll Specialist 2 eligible list

To be eligible for a 70.1 transfer, candidate must have one year or permanent service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 12 or above.

Duties Description Reviews and audits payroll transactions for accuracy.

* Analyze data and resolve complex auditing problems for assigned and unassigned agencies.

* Run queries and initiate post audit review of transactions.

* Provide assistance to other audit staff and customers and determine corrective action for audit problems.


Supervises and audits the work of subordinate staff.

* Supervise the various Earnings processes.

* Review and evaluate the accuracy of work.

* Develop performance plans and handle time/attendance.


Assists with the State’s payroll process.

* Identify weaknesses in business practices.

* Provide recommendations for corrective action.


Researches and documents information for basic customer inquiries.

* Conduct research in response to letters, emails and various inquiries from agency payroll/personnel offices and State employees.

* Respond to telephone inquiries.
