Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) provides high-quality, person-centered services, supports and advocacy to individuals with developmental disabilities in New York State. The Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Division of Enterprise Solutions is seeking a person to work as an Associate Architect for the Division of Administration, Office of Property Supports & Emergency Service -Capital Services Unit.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Director of Capital Services the incumbent will perform architectural review of building plans and designs and provide development, implementation, and oversight of capital construction activities, code activities, and regulatory compliance activities related to the architectural design and management of the buildings and programs for the agency.
• Provide management oversight for the planning, design and construction of both new construction and rehabilitation ranging from major facilities to small residential structures.
• Provide space planning for acquisition and renovation of new facilities and existing facilities for both State owned and state operated sites.
• Provide campus planning for campus renovations and campus consolidation.
• Supervise subordinate architectural personnel and coordinate architectural activities with other specialties involved in the design and construction of building projects.
• Manage the agency ongoing program of fire safety upgrades to residential buildings for compliance with NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, Board and Care and Health Care occupancies.
• Provide code management and code interpretation for all agency programs and activities.
• Manage the construction permit process for facility in-house building projects.
• Coordinate and manage activities with other State agencies related to OPWDD program activities including the NYS Department of Health, NYS Department of State, NYS Department of Labor as well as coordination with the federal government Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The position can require extensive travel throughout the State of New York. In addition, occasional work in the New York State Emergency Operation Center in Albany during a natural disaster will be expected, which may include modified working hours as needed.
