Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law OR be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Office Assistant 3 (Human Resources).

Duties Description Under the supervision of a Human Resources Specialist 2, the Office Assistant 3 will be responsible for managing a wide range of personnel office records and transactions and for serving as the initial point of contact for Canal Corporation staff in HR related issues. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

• Manages the Corporation’s decentralized lists and ELMS certifications, prepares canvass letters and acceptors lists, codes lists in ELMS and the Corporation databases, and works with the Canal Human Resources Specialists and Civil Service to resolve any issues.

• Enters and verifies transactions in NYSTEP, maintains spreadsheets of all transactions (appointments, separations, leaves etc.), and works with Civil Service to resolve any transaction issues.

• Monitors and runs various NYSTEP reports, ensuring that any necessary transactions are processed timely.

• Provides support to Canal Human Resources Specialists in recruitment activities.

• Oversees the Corporation’s Probation and Performance Evaluation tracking system.

• Coordinates the driver’s license verification process to ensure that employees required to maintain a valid driver’s license are in compliance with contract provisions.

• Conducts new employee orientation sessions.

• Manages the Canal Personnel and Recruitment e-mail accounts.

• Manages the maintenance of a variety of human resources office records.

• Performs a variety of duties as assigned.
