NOTE: Continued employment as a Social Work Supervisor 1 (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) is dependent upon current licensure and registration by New York State as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Duties Description Reporting to the Social Work Supervisor 2 (LCSW), the two Social Work Supervisors 1 (SWS1) (LCSW), SG-23 will function as Regional Supervisors for the social work component of the statewide SNUG Program. The SNUG program aims to reverse local trends in violent gun-related crime. The current program consists of 11 SNUG sites Statewide. The goal of the program is to reduce gun-related injuries and deaths in selected localities which have high rates of gun-related injuries among youth and young adults. The program supports street outreach models that work through DCJS funded community-based organizations that are knowledgeable and well positioned to work with high-risk youth and young adults in those areas.

The Social Work Supervisor 1 (LCSW) will provide guidance and direction to the hospital based social workers and the SNUG site based social work staff. One SWS1 will be assigned to Onondaga County covering the upstate hospital and SNUG site based social workers in the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and Troy. The other will be assigned to Westchester County, covering the downstate hospital and SNUG site based social workers in Poughkeepsie, Mt. Vernon, Yonkers, Wyandanch, Hempstead, and in the Bronx. The incumbents will be responsible for the following:

Responsible for the administrative and clinical supervision of the social work staff within their assigned region. The social work staff will provide individual, group and family therapy, as well as crisis intervention and develop psychosocial assessments, in addition to other responsibilities.

Assist in the selection and hiring process of all social workers and provide ongoing support and guidance to social work staff.

Keep apprised of and provide advice to social work staff on client caseloads and treatment plans and any issues that require higher level assistance.

Provide case consultation regarding inpatient and outpatient treatment plans through site visits to each of the assigned hospitals and SNUG sites.

Direct and oversee the therapeutic interventions of individuals assigned to their treatment team.

Provide guidance to social work staff using social work program policies and practices to ensure consistency with regulatory requirements, Agency policy, social work licensure requirements, and other relevant laws, rules, and regulations.

Monitor, evaluate and record client progress relative to goals set forth in treatment plans.

Ensure social work staff are providing appropriate referrals to the Office of Victim Services and other community resources to assist patients in their recovery (i.e. mental, physical or trauma induced illness).

Monitor and track the referral process to ensure end goals are achieved.

Oversee the development of regular support groups for clients, victims, family members, SNUG outreach staff and other staff to assist them in coping with and understanding the crisis or illness they or a family member are going through and discuss a plan of action and positive steps to recovery.

Observe clinical skills to ensure consistency with discipline models, the recommendation of treatment teams, and cultural competency.

Review and evaluate clinical documentation to determine the quality and appropriateness of intervention/treatment provided to individuals and ensure that documentation meets professional and regulatory guidelines.

In consultation with the Manager Training, develop and implement quarterly training sessions at each site for SNUG outreach teams.

Prepare competency-based performance evaluations for social work staff in accordance with State licensing requirements.

Meet with the social work staff within the regions in person and via video conference to review cases and update workers on Statewide initiatives, evidence based practices, and statistical evaluations of work.

Other duties and special projects as assigned by SWS2 (LCSW).

Approximately 25% travel
