Minimum Qualifications According to Civil Service Standards but particularly two years experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two year technical school course. Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades to which assigned; working knowledge of safety standards and procedures; working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations for the trade or trades to which assigned; ability read plans, specifications, manuals, and blueprints; ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms; ability to use the tools, machines, equipment, and materials of the trade or trades to which assigned. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS driver’s license; must have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
Duties Description According to Civil Service Standards but particularly performs a variety of semiskilled maintenance, repair and related activities. The activities, tasks and assignments described are illustrative of the duties performed by positions at this level; they are not meant to restrict Maintenance Assistants to performing only these duties: ability to operate hand and power tools, repair, maintain, and service mechanical equipment, perform routine replacement and repair of plumbing and steam-fitting equipment, perform semiskilled carpentry activities and, under supervision, assist in erecting and renovating buildings and structures, assists in repairing and maintaining locks, performs semiskilled masonry repairs and installation activities, assists in painting and decorating work by performing interior and exterior painting, perform semiskilled tasks of the electrical trade. Incumbents may be assigned to one or more of these areas depending on work requirements and needs. During inclement weather they may be assigned to other maintenance activities, such as snow and ice removal.

In addition to the annual salary, this position is eligible for $3,026.00 Downstate Location Pay.
Different shifts may be required from time to time to meet needs of the College.
