Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
•An undergraduate degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience); and,
•Five years of progressively responsible experience conducting or managing one or more of the following: audits, examinations or program reviews, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Professional certification, such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA); and,
•Master’s degree in accounting, business, public administration, economics, management or a field closely related to the agency’s service sector.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Extensive knowledge of professional audit standards;
•Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
•Experience focusing on the activities of the respective agency’s service sector; and
•Extensive knowledge of government operations.

Job Summary:
The Director of Internal Audit will manage the internal audit programs for the New York State Department of Agriculture of Markets and is responsible for reviewing operations to assure compliance with management policies and the effectiveness of internal controls.
This position is conveniently located near the Albany Airport at 10B Airline Drive, Albany NY 12235. We offer a professional and comfortable working environment with ample free parking. In addition, this is an exempt jurisdictional class, management/confidential position that offers excellent benefits. Benefits include but are not limited to NYS Pension Plan membership, Life Insurance coverage, and Voluntary Defined Contribution Plan. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Directing and planning the audit programs to insure periodic examination of all department operations and of the adequacy of management controls;
•Conducting preliminary studies to gather data and to detect or substantiate weak areas to determine priority of internal audits;
•Planning for making necessary arrangements for specific audits;
•Preparing or directing the preparation of reports of findings;
•Arranging for follow-up studies to determine that recommended corrective action has been taken and is effective;
•Personally conduct the most difficult or complex audits;
•Representing the Departments in contact with other agencies.
Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required.
