Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor as well as understand and carry out written or oral instructions.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Cleaner (50%) position in the New York State School for the Blind. Under the supervision of the Janitor in the Housekeeping Department, the incumbent will be is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the residential facilities, classrooms, and offices on a daily basis. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Clean, wash, and sanitize floors, corridors, stairs, walls, partitions and windows;
• Clean and disinfect rest rooms;
• Polish wood and metal fixtures;
• Follow approved sanitation and cleaning procedures and techniques when working in the Health Center;
• Use power equipment to wax floors and shampoo and vacuum carpets;
• Set up equipment and furniture in designated areas as needed;
• Observe all safety precautions with regard to power equipment and chemical handling, storage, and use;
• Follow all appropriate safety guidelines; and
• Store cleaning materials and equipment properly, and ensure that the cleaning closets are locked at all times.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 12:00pm.

* Leads to a maximum salary of $17,998 ($35,995 pro-rated to 50%) based on annual performance advances.
