Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications).

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications) Civil Service eligible list. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55 b/c service in any of the following titles: Chief Computer Operator, Information Technology Specialist 3, Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database), or Information Technology Specialist 3 (Systems Programming).

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Performance Improvement Management Services is seeking candidates for an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications) position in the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS). The incumbent of this position will be responsible for the management, administration, and maintenance of NYSED’s mainframe operations and Automation Control Unit. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage NYSED’s Automation Control Unit, which coordinates the submission and distribution of mainframe application print jobs to department program offices;
• Maintain NYSED’s mainframe network infrastructure, and coordinate with Office of Information Technology Services mainframe team to maintain mainframe operations;
• Maintain Bridge and Multi-Bridge terminal emulation software and administer mainframe user accounts;
• Coordinate with NYSED application development units in the management of job runsheet modifications, procedure changes, job aborts, form designs, and print quality issues;
• Coordinate with other NYSED technical units in the troubleshooting and resolution of hardware, software, and network issues;
• Develop and maintain mainframe documentation for mainframe operations and procedures;
• Assist and communicate with ITS staff, management, and external partners;
• Manage vendor relationships; and
• Assist with billing and chargeback activities and verify accuracy.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointee’s negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday, 6:30am – 2:30pm. This position requires occasional off-shift night and weekend work.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $92,693 based on annual performance advances.
