Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description ~Peconic Trawl Survey: 3 days per week, 7-3. Crew aboard 35' trawling vessel, working with trawl nets, identifying, measuring, and counting various fish and invertebrate species we encounter, operating a YSI water meter, collecting samples, and helping keep the vessel clean.
~Market Sampling: Visit various fish markets to collect fish racks (filleted fish carcasses), interaction with market owners/managers, processing (otolith extraction), and the possibility of learning some fish aging (time permitting).
~Party Boat Sampling: Mornings start between 5 and 7 am; work as an observer aboard party fishing vessels interacting with customers and crew, measuring all of their catch, answering questions, and possibly processing fish.
~Office Work: Mainly consists of entering survey data into Excel and Access databases as accurately as possible. May help other offices or administrators with various tasks as needed.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

Seasonal, hourly appointments ending no later than 11/30/19. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to 11/30/19. Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at interview.
