Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a New York State Professional Engineer License and current registration. To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Duties Description The incumbent of this position will be the Kosciuszko Bridge Engineer; responsibilities may also include working with the Region’s arterial and local bridge inspection program, and the Bridge Safety Assurance Unit.
The Kosciuszko Bridges comprise of an investment of nearly $1 billion and are the responsibility of Region 11. The Region is looking for a professionally licensed engineer to specialize in the mechanics of the cable-stay bridges and to oversee challenges of inspecting these large structures.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Kosciusko Bridge Responsibilities:
o Directly manage the inspection consultant as the Consultant Job Manager, overseeing all technical and administrative aspects of the project
o Develop and maintain schedules for inspection of special elements of the bridges (stay cables, connections, dampers, etc.)
o Review the inspection reports, flag reports, NSCO’s, and load rating updates
o Oversee the inspections of the stay cables, the pylons, the attachments, the bridge deck, and the utilization of the underbridge inspection traveler
o Oversee inspection of approach spans and ramps
o Assist in the evaluation of overload permit requests
o Develop the technical expertise to advise the Department and our consultants about the bridges
• Manage Biennial Bridge Inspection Projects
o Serve as the Consultant Job Manager for biennial and interim inspection of arterial and local bridges
Successful candidate must be comfortable working safely on aerial lift equipment and at heights to access and evaluate all areas of the bridges
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
