Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service or 55 b/c service as an Associate in Education of Children with Disabilities.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Supervisor in Education of Children with Disabilities position in the Office of Special Education. This Office works to promote educational equity and excellence for students with disabilities, oversees the implementation of federal and State laws and policies for students with disabilities, provides general supervision and monitoring of all public and private schools in New York State serving preschool and school-age students with disabilities, and provides technical assistance to parents and school districts. The incumbent will work under the direction of the Chief of Special Education Services. Duties of this position include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Supervise the Office staff and direct the work of Regional Associates who are assigned to specific school districts or clusters and special education programs;
• Provide technical assistance to parents, school district personnel and private providers;
• Ensure that schools and programs are in compliance with State and federal laws and regulations for the education of students with disabilities, overseeing quality assurance reviews of public and private special education programs, and supervising State complaint investigations of public and private special education programs alleged to have violated special education mandates;
• Collaborate with other Department offices and interact with regional education leaders to improve outcomes for students with disabilities; and
• Function as part of a Statewide SEQA team and devote expertise to the development and maintenance of systems and tools to fulfill the general supervisory responsibilities described above.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfer may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $116,844 based on annual performance advances.
