Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree is preferred. Fluency in Spanish Language is required. Knowledge of and experience using the Microsoft Office suite is required, especially the ability to learn and master database entry.

Duties Description Position Duties and Responsibilities:

• Accept, review and process license applications and documentation related to the issuance of professional combative sports licenses;

• Assure that all medical examinations/testing required in order to be licensed to participate in any New York State professional combative sports event is performed by a Commission approved physician or medical testing facility prior to the event. Assure that any follow-up examinations requested by the Chief Medical Officer have been performed to the satisfaction of the Commission; and that all satisfactory test results are on file with the Commission prior to the day of the event;

• Maintain the Commission’s confidential medical files; respond to inquiries regarding medical information from other state athletic commissions; process and distribute combatant medical suspensions; notify official combat sports reporting registries of all suspensions and event results;

• Oversee the Commission Language Access Program. Receive and respond to requests by promoters and combatants for interpreter services at events. Coordinate with service companies to ensure the appropriate level of interpreter services are procured for events;

• Develop training materials and training programs for Commission staff and officials;

• Perform outreach to regulated communities and combative sports stakeholders;

• Assist in the drafting of reports to the Legislature and Governor, as well as, drafting regular performance management reports;

• As directed, perform such other duties to assist in the daily operation of the Commission and to ensure the proper administration of the Commission’s functions.

Additional Comments The Athletic Activities Coordinator is an Athletic Activities Assistant in the State Athletic Commission reporting to the Executive Director of the Commission. The incumbent assists the Commission in carrying out its functions and duties with respect to professional and amateur combative sports, including duties related to the licensing of regulated persons and entities, coordination and compliance with medical standards, commission policies and protocols, and event coordination. He or she works to carry out the Commission’s Language Access Program in coordination with the Department’s Language Access Policy, performs various special projects at the direction of the Executive Director, and assists with the regulation and supervision of other aspects of professional boxing, MMA and wrestling events to ensure the proper administration and oversight of such events. The incumbent works with Commission staff to develop training materials and assists in the training of Commission employees and officials. He or she may also work with Commission staff to develop outreach programs to assist the regulated community and advance the safety, integrity, and economic impact of combative sports and professional wrestling in New York State.

The incumbent of this position must be available nights and weekends to attend athletic events sanctioned and regulated by the New York State Athletic Commission.
