Candidates must have one year of permanent service in a title eligible for transfer via Section 52.6 and/or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

In the absence of an appropriate eligible list, provisional appointment may be made using the following minimum qualifications:
Provisional Promotional Opportunity for current New York State employees only: License and current registration to practice pharmacy in New York State and permanent competitive service or 55-b/55-c service as follows:
Pharmacist - two years of service
Pharmacy Supervisor - one year of service
Provisional Open Competitive Opportunity: License and current registration to practice pharmacy in New York State and five (5) years of professional post-licensure experience as a Pharmacist, two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial and/or supervisory capacity in a hospital or clinical setting.
A Master's degree in Pharmacy, health administration, health care administration, health services administration, health policy and management, public health, community health, health education, public administration, or business administration in health care may be substituted for one year of the general (non-supervisory) experience.
Note: If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.
Duties Description As a Pharmacy Manager, you are responsible for pharmacy operations at a large state operated pharmacy, including the planning, monitoring and administration of clinical, administrative, and distributive pharmaceutical services. Incumbents develop, recommend, and implement pharmacy policies and procedures; ensure pharmacy compliance with New York State and federal laws, rules, and regulations; and provide guidance, direction, and training to pharmacy staff. You may be responsible for preparing the pharmacy department for survey and accreditation readiness.
Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
