Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Program Research Specialist 2 position in the Office of Curriculum and Instruction. This Office is responsible for the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, the Arts, Physical Education, and professional development initiatives to support these subject areas. The incumbent of this position will provide technical assistance to the Curriculum team in the development of guidance materials and resources to help the field in implementing the NYS Learning Standards. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Communicate with staff within the agency, program office, and technical specialists in other program offices providing support with projects;
• Maintain and update the webpages managed by the Curriculum Office and provide technical assistance in the area of webpage maintenance;
• Prepare tables, graphs, fact sheets, written reports, and presentation slide decks;
• Provide technical assistance to schools, local educational agencies, other public or private agencies, professional groups and parents;
• Collect, process, analyze and interpret data following analytical methods;
• Present results of research, studies or investigations to agency management, covering conclusions and recommendations based on the evaluations made;
• May provide supervision to lower level staff; and
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required at the time of interview for all candidates.

This position may be filled as a traineeship. The salary listed above applies to candidates appointed to Program Research Specialist 2, SG-18. The salary for candidates appointed to the Program Research Specialist Trainee 1 starts at $42,986 and, for current NYS employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates hired at the trainee level will be required to successfully complete a two-year traineeship in order to advance to the journey level title and salary.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $71,980 based on annual performance advances.
