Minimum Qualifications Transfer:
In order to be eligible for transfer, candidates must be employed by New York State and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Food Product Manager 1, Grade M-1, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 or Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Titles which can transfer under Section 70.1 include Director of Mental Health Nutritional Services, Food Production Manager 2 and Nutrition Services Administrator 2. Transfer under Section 52.6 or Section 70.1 is permitted where the candidate has at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades or one M grade of the position.
Provisional:
A bachelor's degree in food service management, dietetics, institutional
management, food service operations, or nutrition.
AND
four years of consultative, administrative, or management experience for for high food volume food production or multiple institutional food service operations, including management, fiscal analysis planning, acquisition, storage, preparation, serving, and transportation of food products for off-site consumption.
- Two years must have included the development and management of computerized food operations and/or the development of food products and
- one year must have been at a supervisory level.
In the event there is no viable Civil Service list, a provisional appointment may be made. In order to be eligible for a provisional appointment, you must meet the provisional minimum qualifications requirement listed above.
Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained. At this time, a date for the Food Product Manager 1 examination has not been announced.
Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill one permanent Food Production Manager 1, Grade M-1, position at the Cook Chill Production Center (CCPC) located in Orangeburg, New York. CCPC produces wholesome food that meets the nutritional and budgetary needs of its customers, which include OMH facilities, other state and government facilities, and non-profit agencies. Cook Chill is a system which prepares large quantities of food with an extended shelf life. Under the general direction of the Food Production Manager 2, the Food Production Manager 1 position is responsible for daily operations of food production. The incumbent oversees the raw goods inventory, schedules food production, manages product pricing and special orders, and ensures safe shipment of finished goods.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Responsible for the daily operations of food processing and production at the Cook Chill Production Center, including all kettle, meat, salad, and modified prep items, ingredient control, and recipes review.
• Ensures food safety systems (HACCP, SSOP and GMP’S) and general workplace safety policies are followed in food processing and production.
• Place food orders to maintain par inventory levels and interface with vendors to meet production schedules.
• Create and maintain product price list by reviewing raw ingredients pricing, and updating recipe cost and pricing on ordering website.
• Work with Quality Assurance team to introduce new ingredients, improve recipes, and introduce new recipes.
• Oversee shipping and transportation operations including order fulfillment. product shipping, and drivers’ schedules.
• Oversee receiving and storage areas to maintain inventory control and meet regulatory food storage requirements.
• Manage customer service by resolving customer service concerns and promoting new items, holiday specials, and customer programs.
• Supervision, guidance and oversight of subordinate staff, and intervene and resolve problems as necessary.
