Minimum Qualifications 1. Four years of experience performing engineering technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; or as a surveyor or drafter;

OR

2. Graduation for high school (or possession of a high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized education authority or a USAFI GED diploma high school level) AND one year of the experience described in option 1 above;

OR

3. Graduation from a high school technical education program in technical aeronautics, technical architectural drafting and building construction; technical chemistry, industrial chemistry, technical electricity/electronics, technical mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems or computer circuitry;

OR

4. Eighteen college semester credit hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering; such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and/or sanitary; public health; environmental and/or engineering technology; drafting; mathematics; surveying; computer science, environmental science; and/or the natural and physical sciences.
YOU MUST SUBMIT A LIST OF QUALIFYING COURSES WITH YOUR APPLICATION. Include the course title, number of semester credit hours per course, name of college or university and date (or expected date) of completion. Applications submitted without a list of relevant courses will be disapproved.

Duties Description 1) Assist Department Engineers on coastal erosion inspections along Lake Ontario and Lake Erie and perform other field work as assigned.
2) Must be able to read and interpret maps detailing regulated zones and areas such as Coastal Erosion Hazard Areas, Structural Hazard Areas, as well as other mapping related technical documents.
3) Extensive communication required within and outside of agency. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively and interact with the general public.
4) Provide outreach and technical assistance to the regulated community. Must be able to read and interpret regulations, technical documents and engineering plans.
5) Respond to and investigate complaints from the general public. Prepare inspection reports, letters and memorandums.
6) Initiate enforcement actions as appropriate. Prepare and present results of analyses, inspections, and research assignments to managers and other Department staff.
7) Competency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point preferred. Experience with GIS is favorable.

Additional Comments Must have a valid NYS Driver’s license or be able to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel and overnight travel may be required. Extensive field work is required. Must be able to traverse rough or uneven terrain. Required to work after hours on an as needed basis. Actual work schedule may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration of 4/1/19 to 3/31/20. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to termination dates indicated. Actual work schedule may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
