Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades person or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
The Candidate must be able to safely pilot a boat on Lake George including at night and during inclement weather for maintenance of the Island campsites and day use areas operated from Roger’s Rock. Experience operating a sanitary sewer vacuum system and knowledge of low voltage solar array charging systems is preferred as duties will include daily maintenance of Clivus Multrum (composting) comfort stations. Must be able to traverse rough terrain, work in remote locations in extreme weather conditions, climb ladders and work in and around water utilizing proper PPE. Candidate must be responsible in handling and accounting for all monies, ie. Daily Operating Funds, camping permits, day use ticket sales, etc. in the absence of Facility Supervisor, and be willing and capable of properly operating a personal computer for accounting purposes in compliance with NYS Finance Law. Additionally, the candidate will have complete working knowledge of the Outdoor Recreation Management Suite (ORMS) registering customers and completing mandatory reports and ensure that the payroll entries (LATS) are submitted and approved by the Friday after the end of the pay period. Must be willing to communicate using proper radio etiquette.
Duties Description Candidate must be willing and able to do manual work in the campgrounds on Lake George Islands such as but not limited to; lifting trash cans chest high, using rakes and shovels, able to operate lawn mowers, leaf blowers and grass trimmers. Must be will to clean restroom facilities and assist and manage operation of recycle stations with these campgrounds in accordance with state, county and town laws. The MAP may be responsible for the entire operation of the campground facility, including subordinate staff during the absence of the Facility Supervisor. The candidate must be willing to work undefined hours, ensuring continued operation of the facility. Must work weekends and holidays and be willing to respond to emergencies while working at the facility regardless of the time; day or night. Must become very familiar with campground operation manuals and be able to perform all functions defined within, being able clearly communicate with others, which will include enforcement of rules and regulations. Candidate must be able to supervise employees ensuring staff understand and carry out duties in a timely manner with consideration to the safety of all employees.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and/or work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a temporary appointment with a duration of 4/18/19 - 11/30/19. Your actual termination date may be prior to the date indicated here. The work day hours are usually 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. However, as needed when the Facility Supervisor is on pass-day, the MAP will work 11 hour days to ensure the facility's proper operation, keeping health and safety for the public a priority.
