Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:
Education level required: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant area
Required experience: At least four years’ experience working in or with the tourism industry (ideally New York State’s tourism industry) including managing and developing tourism programs, strategic planning and creating and managing budgets; Experience planning and executing meetings, workshops, educational programs, webinars, etc.; Experience designing and adhering to metrics and KPIs that measure performance and achievement of goals; Experience supervising staff.
Preferred experience: Understanding of the latest issues impacting the tourism industry; Familiarity with New York State’s tourism regions and assets; Background in heritage tourism and/or LGBT marketing; Experience working in government or with governmental entities; Background in licensing and/or intellectual property a plus, but not required.
Knowledge, skills and other expectations: Excellent writing and oral communications skills; Strong interpersonal skills; Excellent judgment and professionalism; Team player who can be both creative and flexible; Record of innovative leadership and creative programming; Ability to represent the Division of Tourism with the public, elected officials and New York State’s tourism industry; Record of past success as part of a highly visible tourism program a plus.
Duties Description Basic Function: Support the Executive Director and the tourism team in coordinating ESD’s iconic I LOVE NY tourism program, specifically segment tourism initiatives and tourism industry efforts, to increase statewide visitation.
Work Performed:
• Oversee segment tourism initiatives including Path Through History and I LOVE NY LGBT
• In tandem with the Executive Director, develop and implement initiatives to support and partner with tourism industry partners across the state, including educational technical assistance programs, industry event sponsorships and industry meetings
• Oversee the I LOVE NY logo licensing program, including management of the state’s retained licensing agency
• Assist the Executive Director with division operations, including supervising team members who manage the I LOVE NY call center, press and trade familiarization tours and trade show coordination efforts
• Other relevant projects/assignments as appropriate
