Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position or their employment in the position (may have hold item) will end.
The minimum requirements for taking the Promotion examination are:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of PERMANENT competitive, or non-competitive (including 55-b/55-c) service as an: Assistant Drill Rig Operator, Assistant Land Surveyor 1, Assistant Land Surveyor 2, Drafting Technician, Drill Rig Operator, Engineering Technician, Environmental Engineering Technician 1, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetics), or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils). After one year of the service described in the Minimum Qualifications, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment from the eligible list.
The minimum requirements for taking the Open Competitive examination are:
Either 1. TWO years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from a high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority;
Or 2. an associate’s degree in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics;
Or 3. a certificate in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, or electronics** issued by a regionally accredited college or university and ONE year of experience as listed above in # 1;
Substitution:
Either: 36 semester credit hours of college course work in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics or electronics technology may be substituted for experience at the rate of 18 semester credit hours equaling ONE year of experience listed above in #1;
Or: graduation from a high school technical education program (recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting acceptable program practices and standards) in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, or electronics may be substituted for ONE year of experience listed above in #1.
** Certificates from Trade or Technical Schools will be accepted only if they are institutions that are regionally accredited or recognized by the NYS Department of Education as following acceptable educational practices.
Duties Description Duties will include:
• Support the Regional FOIL Officer in the administration of the Regional FOIL Program. This includes data collection, preparation of correspondence and daily tracking of requests.
• Support the Regional Claims Officer in the administration of the Regional Claims Program. This includes data collection, preparation of correspondence and daily tracking of claims.
• Support the research and information collection for record plan requests made by the public and Department staff.
• Support GIS data record keeping, as needed.
• Perform routine office support, such as answering phones, working with the public and preparing routine correspondence.
Responsibilities also include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the Department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
