Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have a minimum of one year of experience in environmental education programs; or one year of college study with specialization in natural sciences, natural resources, or environmental education.
Duties Description 1) Education: Teach programs independently in school classrooms, as well as conduct programs for adults and the general public in both indoor and outdoor settings.
2) Teacher Training Assistance: Help education staff conduct educator workshops using national environmental education programs such as Projects WILD, Learning Tree and WET (Water Education for Teachers).
3) Public Outreach: Speak with the public at fairs, festivals, or other events on the mission and goals of NYSDEC and to educate the public about the environment and natural resources.
4) Support: Assist education staff with answering questions from the public, scheduling programs, creating lesson plans, filing documents, maintaining collections and supplies.
5) Design: Create new classroom lessons and public programs for outreach.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel and working early morning, evenings and weekends will be required, some overnight travel to be expected. Typical work week and length of position will be discussed at interview.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/20. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to the date above. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
