Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the PATT or the PCO Civil Service eligible list OR have one year of permanent competitive service as a Training Specialist 1, G-18. Also open to NYS employees who are eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two grade levels. In order to qualify for transfer, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service in an administrative title as defined by Section 52.6 or in a title approved by Civil Service under section 70.1. Examples of qualifying Section 52.6 titles include Administrative Assistant, G-18; Agency Training & Development Specialist 1, G-18; Contract Management Specialist 1, G-18; and Information Technology Specialist 2, G-18. Examples under section 70.1 include Office Assistant 3 (HR), Agency Program Aid, and Administrative Aid.
Qualification/Skills:
Applicants should have strong written and oral communication skills and be able to work both as a team member and independently as required by specific assignments. Candidates should be able to think creatively to propose and develop solutions to meeting training needs. As a preferred qualification, the ideal candidate will have a background in developing and delivering curriculum for adult learners and be familiar with approaches to meet the needs of diverse learning styles. Candidates should have competence with utilizing MS Office 365 software including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
Duties Description The successful candidate will be an integral part of the DOB training team that is responsible for developing and delivering a robust spectrum of training and professional development programs. DOB’s training team ensures the delivery of long-standing core training programs, including the highly regarded “BEST” series, mentoring program, and critical technical trainings; the evolution of additional training series to build core competencies, such as the Fundamentals of Supervision Certificate Program; and continual innovations to build new professional development opportunities, including through the new Engaging in Leadership Program, coordinated series of outside speakers, panel discussions, and other creative means.
Responsibilities of the Training Specialist 1 on the Training Team would include, but are not limited to:
- Deliver classroom training sessions;
- Develop new training curriculum and new professional development offerings;
- Continue to develop training qualifications, including through GOER Train-the-Trainer sessions;
- Work as part of a team for the delivery and continued development of DOB’s Elite Leadership Series and other training initiatives;
- Communicate with supervisors and employees to identify staff training needs and develop strategies for meeting those needs;
- Create training marketing materials including flyers, emails, and SharePoint site content;
- Develop online training materials using video and audio in eLearning software (Camtasia):
- Utilize the Statewide Learning Management System (SLMS) to facilitate and track employee course attendance;
- Coordinate and facilitate the presentations of DOB subject matter experts;
- Assist with GOER Mandatory Training tracking and completion;
- Participate in the Trainer Community of Practice and GOER initiatives.
