Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must be reachable on the Chief Computer Operator departmental list OR

must be eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

To be eligible for a 52.6 or 70.1 transfer, candidate must have one year of permanent service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 21 or above.

Duties Description · Setup and review automated schedules using TSO and ESP scheduling software to ensure that processing is completed accurately and timely.

· Handle deadlines and priority changes appropriately, making certain that uses needs are met.

· Provide Operations staff with all necessary batch scheduling instructions, check-off sheets, and documentation.

· Monitor the progress of the batch schedules using ESP, SDSF and NetWorker Management Console.

· Verify that batch jobs have completed successfully using ESP, SAVRS and NetWorker Management Console.

· Automate new jobs, scripts, batch files and PeopleSoft processes using ESP Workload automation.

· Analyze job failures using appropriate software message manuals. Reference job runbook documentation recovery instructions for resolution.

· Escalate the notice of job failure to system and application programming staff where and when necessary.

· Document all job failures and their resolutions on applicable incident report(s) and notify necessary staff by phone or email as required.

· Update the automated job schedules using TSO and ESP as needed to resolve schedule discrepancies or conflicts to avoid recurrence.

· Provide expertise and responsiveness with users to satisfy their production inquires and requests.

· Ensure that Operators are given schedule instructions in a clear and concise manner.

· Effectively communicate with support and technical staff when resolving job failures or setting up new procedures.

· Migrate MVS JCL into production libraries using TSO and ISPF, making operational changes where necessary.

· Migrate AS/400 CL programs and files into production using Alden Change Management System ((ACMS).

· Migrate Windows programs and files to production directories using Windows move and copy functions.

· Update associated change management software and change logs as needed.

· Review and maintain all written documentation submitted by the users for jobs being placed in production mode.

· Supervise and direct the daily shift activities of the Scheduling Services supervising computer operators.

· Maintain appropriate staffing levels, attaining maximum and optimum use of their abilities and assists in improving staffs level of knowledge, skill and ability.

· Ensure all shift chief computer operators, information technology services 4, and manager of ITS 1 are aware of significant decisions, issues, and matters that affect Scheduling Services and its customers.

· Probationary and annual performance evaluations are completed timely and accurately for all subordinate staff.

· Ensure that daily, weekly, monthly, and on request work schedules are met at the data center.

· Identify, investigate and resolve any processing problems, such as they occur, relating to the automated job scheduler, the online report viewer, the tape management system, system and applications programming. JCL errors and equipment breakdowns.

· Oversee the implementation of new jobs, batch files, scripts and program files.

· Automate new jobs, scripts, batch files and PeopleSoft processes using ESP Workload automation.

· Review and maintain all written submitted by the users for jobs being placed in production mode.

· Supervise staff members in the Scheduling Services unit.

Train subordinate staff in the duties assigned for their particular positon(s).
