Duties Description A Plant Utilities Engineer 2 is a working supervisor with direct responsibility for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing and calibration of mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air-conditioning, electrical distribution systems, fire alarm and sprinkler systems.

The incumbent functions as a physical plant manager, assisting College/Facilities management in planning, designing, developing, budgeting, and implementing major power plant renovation, major equipment overhauls and replacements, and energy conservation projects. They also function as the primary contact for contractor relations and provide information to College/Facilities management to facilitate physical plant operation and maintenance.

Illustrative Activities and Tasks

*Schedules staff to insure adequate coverage on all shifts.
*Assigns staff to maintenance and repair projects; observes and inspects work while in progress and when completed to insure the proper use of materials, workmanship, that safety regulations and relevant codes are followed, that schedules are met and that work is performed according to plan.
*May be required to supervise other trades or private contractors as needed.
*Supervises the handling of various types of hazardous materials, such as refrigerants, Freon, gas, fuel oil, solvents, antifreeze, biocides, nitrates, amines, ethanol, acids, caustic soda, regulated waste and refuse.
*Supervises the servicing and maintenance of residential heating and air conditioning equipment.
*Supervises and conducts boiler, HVAC, and water systems testing, analyzing results and adding chemicals to maintain proper residuals in boiler and piping systems.
*Operates and supervises staff in operation of high pressure boilers, air handling equipment and refrigeration equipment. *Duties include starting, regulating and troubleshooting equipment to maintain proper and reliable operation.
*Supervises operations and maintenance within an asbestos environment and/or supervise any asbestos removal project being carried out by other employees or private contractors insuring compliance with code rule 56 and OSHA regulations.
*Works in confined space situations using personal protective equipment, and supervises others working in confined space using personal protective equipment.
*Maintains working knowledge of OSHA, PESH, EPA, DEC, Health, NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and Labor rules and regulations as they relate to the requirements of the occupation, including oil spills, chemical spills, air quality, stack emissions, and water contamination.
*Supervises the response to incidents having potential environmental impact and/or safety concerns, such as chemical spills, oil spills and blowouts, and may be called upon to implement evacuation plans in emergency situations.
*Incumbent will be trained in the operation and maintenance procedures as related to Asbestos Containing Materials.
*Required to perform on call duties.

*The salary range for this position is SG-16 ($54,446- $65,849).
