Minimum Qualifications Transfer: Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Public Health Educator, G22; OR current New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title G20 or above and eligible for transfer to Public Health Educator under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the below provisional qualifications.
Provisional: Bachelor's or higher degree, including or supplemented by 30 credits in education and four years of experience in the development and implementation of a public health/health education program that includes an outreach component. A Master’s Degree in education or public health may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
A copy of your transcript indicating the courses you completed that meet the 30 qualifying credit hours listed above must be included. The list should include course names, credit hours and name of college where your college credits were obtained. Failure to include this list will result in disapproval of your application.
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in science; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical information for lay audiences; skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe graphics and statistical software
Duties Description The Public Health Educator will provide consultation and technical service to local health departments and program staff in the administration and implementation of public health programs, specifically those aimed at preventing childhood lead poisoning. The Public Health Educator will create outreach and education programs aimed at changing behaviors to prevent disease / illness and promote health through the use of educational principles and methods.
Additional Comments Full-time, permanent transfer or provisional pending examination. Provisional appointee will be required to take the next Civil Service PHE examination, and be immediately appointable on the resulting eligible list, to maintain employment. Occasional travel, including overnight, to areas that may not be served by public transportation is required.
